Work Experience

Practicum @ SBL Vision Family Service Centre

In December 2022, I had the opportunity to be attached to SBL Vision Family Service Centre to experience firsthand how a certified social worker manages a case. This practicum allows me to gain insights on how various theories like Family Life Cycle and tools like Genogram can help to better understand a beneficiary case. Here are some of the things that I have done during the practicum:

  • Assisted my supervisor to conduct a house visit and observed the environment of the beneficiary

  • Utilized Genopro to draw a Genogram of our family structure for our supervisor to explain how does family structure affects how we view and perceive the world

  • Observed at least 10 different range of cases from low-income to homelessness to discover the challenges faced by the vulnerable population.

My time with SBL Vision Family Centre was very fulfilling as was able to apply what I have learned into practice. My interaction with the beneficiary during the house visit and my supervisor allowed me to gain valuable insights into the social work industry. Additionally, I also managed to be more self-aware about myself and my family.
