HeartFelt x HealthServe
HeartFelt is a Final Year Project that was led by me (Leader) and planned together with 5 other teammates. It aims to promote mental wellness among migrant workers (MW) through the normalization of emotions. This problem statement was developed with our primary research when we interviewed 43 MWs from Kranji Dormitory, Kranji Recreational Centre, and Kaki Bukit Recreational Centre. Through our primary research, we found out information like most of the MWs do not have any knowledge about mental health and they face mental health difficulties such as extreme stress and anger in common areas like work and back home (dormitories). Furthermore, we interviewed Mr. Joel (Head of Mental Health & Counselling Services @ Healthserve) and Mr. Justin Paul (Former Mental Health & Counselling @ Healthserve) to find out more about the MWs' community. The interview with the proxies was crucial to the development of our solution as we found out that there are peer support leaders (PSL) within the dormitories that MWs can rely upon for advice and support.

Unique Selling Point
Together with the primary research from the MWs' community and their proxies, we established 2 deliverables for HeartFelt. The first will be 2 sessions of Facilitation that directly targets our social issue through teaching, interactive activities, and reflection. The first facilitation session will adopt the Train-The-Trainer strategy where we will train the PSLs to be comfortable facilitating conversations about emotions and mental health safely with their peers. As for the second facilitation session, the trainers will facilitate the content taught to them in session 1 to improve their confidence in the mental health topic. Moreover, one unique interactive activity that is going to happen in the second session is an art activity that requires the participants to draw out their most recent negative emotions felt and share the story behind the drawings with other participants.
The second deliverable is Art Exhibition which will happen for 2 weeks at Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Atrium. It aims to advocate and educate the public about MW's mental health by showcasing the emotions behind their artwork done in the second facilitation session. The drawings displayed will be anonymous and selected based on the illustration of emotions in the drawings and the MW's comfortability to share their art. The booth will also have a sticky notepad and pen for the public to pen down their encouragement and paste beside the MW's artwork to help MWs better understand the normalization of emotions. Lastly, at the end of the exhibition, the artwork and encouraging notes will be returned to the MWs.
This page is still in development as HeartFelt is still ongoing until late August 2023.
